Café Central is a renowned establishment in Vienna known for its Viennese cuisine and rich historical connections to figures like Sigmund Freud and Leon Trotsky. The café, established in 1876, quickly became the preferred meeting spot for influential individuals who would later shape history. Housed in the Palais Ferstel, an elegant building constructed in 1860 to house the Austrian National Bank, Café Central embraces late Romantic Historicism style.
Over coffee, cake and the odd cigar, some of the greatest poets, philosophers and - it has to be said storytellers the world has ever seen, gottogether in Vienna's most attractivecoffeehouse. Our Bengali new year (নববর্ষ) was well-spent.It is truly said: “there are cafes, and then there is Café Central!”Highly recommended in this iconic and historic cafe once you’re in the Austrian capital; advance booking is advisable if you don’t want to wait in the queue in front of the cafe.

Nice atmosphere, beautiful location, lovely traditional Austrian inferior, and pleasant piano music played live. Sadly the food was lacking in flavor factor we would have expected from this quality of restaurant. Nice for tourist who are looking for an Austrian meal with an English menu however.

One of the most famous cafes in Vienna, more than 100 years old.The building is beautiful. Loved the vibe in the cafe too, especially when they started playing the piano.Be prepared to queue if you do not have any reservations. The queue can be pretty long.Cakes were ok, not fantastic. Many choices though. Drinks were standard too. But the ambience of the cafe made up for that. Didn't order food so can't comment on that.Prices were reasonable for this type of cafes, also not as pricey as some of the other cafes in Vienna.A perfect place to chill with friends, with hot drinks and some desserts while enjoying the music.

Very nice place to stop for a coffee and a dessert. If you can, book in advance, the line could be very long.We had also lunch here but I have to say that the food was just ok we had baked chicken and pork with gnocchi, the salad dressing wasn’t really nice, I would recommend just to come for the sweets and of course the coffee. The service is friendly and a little slow, but the place is always busy so we understand it. For dessert we had an Apple Strudel with vanilla sauce and ice cream, it was really nice. We will come back for sure, the atmosphere is fantastic.

This is one of the must be in Vienna. The atmosphere, food, service, coffee, whole place is just magic!I strongly recommend booking online before you decide to visit to avoid queues.I have had the best time, breakfast, and coffee with amazing cakes there! Service was also very good and professional! It put me in a right great mood to explore Vienna.Definitely, yes!!!And thanks 😊

We visited without an appointment and waited in line for less than an hour. The restaurant was spacious, but there was a piano playing next to our seats, so we could not talk slowly. The piano performance itself was very good. The Cafe Central cakes, which I had been curious about, were especially delicious. The service was not too much, but fairly normal.

We visited the Cafe Central in Vienna during our vacation, and I have to say it's a must-visit spot. Even though there was a long line outside, it moved quickly, and the wait was totally worth it. The service was great; our server was quick and friendly. It's a good idea to check the menu online before you go because they're quite busy. They have a tempting display of desserts to choose from. Plus, there was a pianist playing some lovely tunes, which added to the nice atmosphere.

Beautiful cafe with amazing interior, good place with good atmosphere, there was also a pianist playing while we were there. Cakes are good, apple strudel was alright maybe cause I’m not a big fan of apple strudels. The queue outside is quite insane, we waited for 1h to get in and this cafe is huge. The queue was still going strong even after we left.Nothing mind blowing about the food, but it’s a good place to chill and relax.

Beautiful cafe in the heart of Vienna. Easy to arrive there with Public Transportation.Nice and tasty breakfast. Highly recommend to make an early reservation to avoid queue. After 16:00 they have live piano. Breakfast is served until 11:30 on weekdays and 13:00 on weekends at the moment. Make sure search it before you go.

Had reservation for breakfast and the cafe was fairly empty on arrival at 830am on a weekday. Beautiful decor. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. You can choose the mouth watering cakes and pastries from the display. On my quest to sample as many sachertorte as possible in Vienna, the one here is pretty good except the cake was just a tad bit on the dry side.

Obviously great for historic reasons and for the setting. They had good gluten free pastries. Iced coffee was good quality I believe but I would say not to come here only for coffee, there are other great places in Vienna for that.

I recently visited Cafe Central and was absolutely delighted by the experience. This charming spot combines an inviting atmosphere with exceptional offerings, making it a must-visit destination. The ambiance at Cafe Central is simply perfect—elegant yet cozy, with a blend of classic and contemporary decor that creates a welcoming environment. It's the kind of place where you can comfortably relax and enjoy a leisurely coffee or a catch-up with friends. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the desserts. The coffee, too, was exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Cafe Central is a gem for anyone who appreciates high-quality coffee and exquisite desserts in a delightful setting. I highly recommend it and look forward to my next visit.

I don’t usually like to queue for a restaurant, but the queue was short when we walked pass. This turned out to be one of the best culinary experience of my trip. And the schnitzel was the best one I have had in this trip. I liked how crispy it is.The venue was absolutely gorgeous and the live piano playing added that extra magic to the experience.I would love to come back here.

A very famous cafe. Normally you will have to wait outside for at least a couple of minutes or maybe even half an hour. The place itself is impressive and the staff is very efficient in service. You can eat lunch there - they have local shniztel and hot dogs etc., but it seems that most of the visitors come for a coffee and a cake. The cakes look great but the taste is not something out of the ordinary, it is not too sweet which is a good thing in my taste, but there was nothing special. In total it is worth a one-time visit to the place, just because it's a very famous cafe...

Cafe Central is a grand Venetian Cafe. We got there early and were were no queues. We had two excellent hot chocolates and shared a very light hazelnut chocolate cakes between two.The cafe has a wonderful atmosphere and you could not fault the friendly and efficient service. The Cafe was luxurious and spacious.Best top is to either booking in advance or come early and have breakfast.

Amazing food and experience! Definitely recommend booking a reservation in advance as the line gets very long. There is love piano music in the afternoon that was very lovely. Food was delicious and even though it was very busy, the staff was very friendly and quick. Loved this place!

A beautiful cafe with lots of history. The main selling point here is the atmosphere, though I think it would have been even better with a little background music. Service was good but we had to wait a long time for the bill. We waited outside right before it opened on a Sunday, and got a table immediately. The food is nothing to write home about but it's not that much more expensive than other places. The coffee was really not good, which is disappointing given the place's history. Cake selection was massive and they were much more enjoyable as well.

Ate at Cafe Central for a wedding anniversary and was not disappointed. Beautiful building inside and out, first class service and great atmosphere helped along by the pianist. Best Schnitzel and cakes in Vienna and less pricey than some of the other cafes.

As one of Vienna's most renowned restaurants, the ambiance here is truly exceptional, creating a captivating experience akin to a journey through time. The attention to detail in recreating a bygone era is commendable, and the service matches the nostalgic charm, ensuring a delightful visit. However, while the atmosphere and service stood out positively, the same level of enthusiasm didn't extend to the tastes. The hot chocolate and green tea, though not unpleasant, failed to distinguish themselves from more standard offerings. On a brighter note, the cake provided a satisfactory flavor experience. It's worth noting that, despite the culinary qualms, the prices here lean towards the higher side compared to other capital cities. The balance between historical charm, attentive service, and taste is delicate, and in this case, while the former two shine, the latter might leave some room for improvement. Here's to finding that perfect harmony of flavors and experiences in Vienna's rich culinary landscape. ☕🍰🏰

Had a long queue, so we thought it’ll be good. But in truth the food was meh. You could get more from other cafes with the same price. The atmosphere was lovely, and the live piano performance started when we were about to leave. It was nice. But I wouldn’t go back the next time I’m in Vienna.Their service was super super slow after they sat you down at your table. We weren’t happy with their service and the average quality, so we didn’t give tips when we were paying for the bill, I smiled gently to the staff telling them sorry but no we’re not tipping him. And he responded to me in a straight face “why are you smiling it is not funny” and told us other people always give them tips, so we should give too.So yeah, not a happy experience here.Meal: 🌟🌟Cake: 🌟🌟🌟Coffee: 🌟🌟Service: 🌟Environment: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A must visit in Vienna! Located in the city center, the building and interior is very beautiful with the vintage vibe. Various dishes from traditional Viennese cuisine to pastries to choose from, and the staffs are all very friendly. I went there on a Tuesday morning 8:00 and was very empty, only after 9:00 people started to come in, but I still recommend to make a reservation beforehand.

Great place for dinner, although the waiting time is consistent. There is a queue outside most of the time. Many tourist are coming to have dinner at ‘Cafe Central’ for the beauty of the old building and its architecture. There also many who enters take pictures and leaving, which makes the queue unbearable. The atmosphere inside is average while the interior architecture is spectacular. Food is above average from quality perspective with prices from moderate to high.

Come here for the cute back drop for photos, have a nice cake and coffee when your feet are tired from exploring the city or your first stop for breakfast. Food is on the pricier end and ok but won’t be the best coffee, croissant or egg you have eaten. You’re paying for the history and atmosphere.Recommend to book ahead if you don’t want to wait to skip the line and save time.

A historical cafe open until today. They offer variety of cakes/bakery/food/drinks, but unfortunately during our visit, they didn’t offer the full menu. Cakes were okay but I’d not recommended apple pie. Hot chocolate is a must order here. It’s always crowded. So, I’d recommend going there during the opening time to get the first lot of table.

A wonderful atmosphere, well-maintained, and excellent service! I've dined here twice – once for breakfast and later for lunch. For breakfast, I enjoyed the ham and pumpkinseed oil omelet, though it was slightly overcooked. However, the brioche was a delightful surprise. For lunch, I started with Viennese sausages, served with a hand-rolled bread that was quite delightful. The main course was cooked meat with spinach cream, hashed potatoes, and carrots. Despite its appearance, it tasted remarkably good. To top it off, I indulged in a hazelnut cake for dessert – a perfect ending! One more shout out for the excellent service!I highly recommend this place!

It’s one of the popular coffee houses in Vienna and it doesn’t disappoint! Expect a queue to get in, but you won’t wait too long. The building is beautiful both outside and in. We were greeted by a friendly waiter and taken to our seats towards the back of the cafe. It had a lively atmosphere and plenty of tourists taking pictures of everything, including me!Our waiter was amazing and so friendly. The service was prompt and spot on!We ordered soup to start and it was delicious. Next came the cakes… we didn’t order the usual Sachertorte or Apple strudel as there’s plenty of other exquisite cakes we wanted to try! The ones we’d chosen were so so delicious!!!! Compliments to the chefs!!The coffees were fantastic and we were really pleased with the visit. It’s worth the wait!! We brought a little snow globe as our souvenir to remind us of our visit!!

We booked online and got through the queue without any issues - the queue before 9am is short however quickly increased while we were there. The service was great, and all the servers were lovely. Helping us with any questions related to the dietary requirements we have. The breakfast was great, and we also enjoyed a delicious vegan cake. It was the first thing we did in Vienna. One of the few cafes that starts early (and can be tried before any tour/place opens up). We went on Monday at 8:45 AM and got in without any wait time. We found the place quite good with really good interiors, service was warm and prompt, and the cake spread was amazing. Didn't find too many people just trying to click photos and videos. However, there were around 10 tables waiting when we came out.

If you're reading this you can tell this is a popular place with yummy sweet cakes and delights. Here are some tips: first get a reservation. If you have one, you can by pass the queue and go in the doors on the left side. It's also best to show your reservation to the Host. They will quickly seat you. Next, immediately take a look at the cakes and sweets in the case. Those are what you will have available to you and you should decide based on what you see. We came the Cafe Central two nights in a row and was disappointed that on the second night, one of the cakes we had just the night before was not available. We asked our waiter and he said that once they sell our for the day and the check the case for what's available. Third, as much as this place is popular for sweet stuff and coffee, try the savory food. We had the pork and it was amazing.

Last time was 2022 and we were amazed, ambient and food was so good. This week we returned with out daughters, told them before about the Wiener breakfast. Specially we were looking for the croissants, we kept them in mind as super crispy and tasteful. After making the queue we were sitting in a lovely spot.Waiting, waiting, waiting for our order…then it came!!! Croissants not to be compared with the former ones. In fact one of them came flat, this is not acceptable, the kitchen should have not allowed to go to customer. And the waiter shouldn’t have served it….but I guess everything is served and sold….sad!!On top, when asking for the bill, you are kindly asked to include the tip….everyone, this is nit the US, where tips are a considerable part of waiter’s income.Bottom line, too many tourists are making a beautiful place “must see place” into a massive touristic attraction, loosing the quality of service and food.We will not return, there are still other premium place first breakfast.

There was a line in front, and it took about 15 to 20 minutes to be seated. The atmosphere is incredible with live piano music. The staff are very professional and polite. The pumpkin soup and goulash were very, very tasty (especially the pumpkin soup). The apple strudel was amazing with vanilla sauce (I liked the sauce more than the strudel). The hot drinks are very good. I think it is a must to visit this place in Vienna. And the Strudel is better than other deserts.

Have Kaiserschmarn pancake. It is essentially sponge cake. Eur 12.5 per serving. The portion is big, fit for 3-4 people. Taste alright, nothing special really.Have also order sandwich from lunch menu. Which is okay. The cream on hot chocolate is nice, not sweet, just the right texture. The hot chocolate itself is however taste cheap. The same thing you can get from instant hot chocolate from supper market.

The schnitzel is definitely recommended. The suckling pork was delicious, just the portion was small. The atmosphere is okay, but the place is just too busy and a bit loud. The service wasn't the best. The staff are extremely busy and don't have time to treat you well. Additionally, with the poor service they expect to get tips and if you refuse or give the minimum, they become a bit rude. I recently visited a beautiful cafe that left a lasting impression with its amazing interior and inviting atmosphere. The ambiance was elevated by the enchanting melodies played by a talented pianist, creating a delightful and soothing experience. The selection of cakes was impressive, and while the apple strudel didn't quite match my personal taste preferences, the overall quality of the desserts was commendable. Having to wait to enter for about 20 minutes was worth it. Try to reserve online a few days in advance if you can. What surprised me the most was the prices i expected to be expensive because it's popular, in the end it was affordable. Try their desserts like chocolate cake or apple strudel . I was a little disappointed that the coffee was too bitter and didn't taste good. But the location and ambience is nice.

A time capsule that is always packed with tourists. Yet it worth waiting. Good spot to try local desserts of Austria and cafe's daily delicacies which are being made in French style. Prosecco was fitting perfectly to wash it down. You pay a decent price to be served in that historic atmosphere which is understandable. A graceful place.
